FIGURES OF SPEECH AWARDED NEA GRANT
FEE SUBSIDIES AVAILABLE
TO UNDER-SERVED MAINE SCHOOLS!

Sometimes your tax dollars actually go to positive, life-affirming things, like bringing art to rural school children in Maine! The National Endowment for the Arts' "Access to Artistic Excellence" program is intended "to encourage and support artistic excellence, preserve our cultural heritage, and provide access to the arts for all Americans."

Thanks to the support this NEA grant award provides, Figures of Speech is able to reduce fees for our school performances and Artist-in-Residency programs by up to 50% this year.

Co-Director Carol Farrell explains, "The NEA is helping us keep the arts alive in rural Maine communities. In many of the schools where we perform or teach, this grant is what's makes the impossible possible -- it's that simple. And those are the kids who need exposure to the arts the most."

Subsidies are available for '08-'09 on a first-come first-served basis, taking financial need into consideration. So contact Carol at figures@concentric.net. ASAP -- we'll work to make sure you can afford to bring "Artistic Excellence" to your students!

Thank you, NEA, for believing that a great nation's children deserve great art, too!
